Our Bible Study Class Homework Assignment was to select a subject, identify the first time the subject was used in the Bible, then select three to five scriptures to help or refute the subject. I completed the assignment but then I kept hearing another term from various family members and friends. What is the trigger word? Glad you asked. The word is “Anxiety!”
For many years, I thought anxiety, was being anxious; which meant to me being excited with anticipation. We are never too old to learn. Now I know in the year 2025 dictionary.com defines anxiety as distress or uneasiness of mind caused by fear of danger or misfortune.
Synonyms: disquiet, sorry, foreboding, fear; full of mental distress or uneasiness because of fear of danger or misfortune; greatly worried apprehension.
Psychiatry: a state of apprehension and psychic tension occurring in some forms of mental disorder. It is a psychological condition resulting from living in a cursed, fallen reality.”
“Whenever circumstances get too hard or when the world outside of us seems to be like a wave crashing down, the more our roots are planted in temporary desires, the more we will be overcome with fear or anxiety. It is an going fearful restlessness where we imagine hypothetical circumstances of loss. The one who fears the Lord has roots deep enough that circumstances do not wither the leaves of his heart[1].
Fix Your EYES On Christ.
Scripture 1: Hebrews 12:1 NKJV, …let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.”
If your lenses need cleaning, then put on your spiritual glasses.
Wherever we fix our eyes, is where we are going. In my devotional time, I just read a story about a father who was trying to teach his son to ride his bicycle. The son was all over the place on this bicycle; and in essence, kept falling. But it dawned on him to tell his son to focus on the stationary (cement based) flag pole. When the son, did this, he was able to ride his bicycle. What am I saying this time? Btw, I have more stories than Forest Gump. My Dear Pastor told us (the congregation) just like the tv show “Ally McBeal,” we all need a theme Psalm. A Psalm that will encourage us, makes us feel good. Mine is Psalms 121; “I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, From whence cometh my help.”
Meditate (MIND) on These Things.
Reminder: anxiety can be hypothetical.
Philippians 4:8 NKJV, Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever thigs are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy – meditate on these things.
Scripture 2: Isaiah 26:3 KJV, Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: (Why?) because we trusteth in thee.
Scripture 3: Philippians 4:6 NKJV, Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Stand Firm on God and Faith
Scripture 4: Psalm 1:3 NKJV, He is like a tree planted by water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.
Scripture 5: Ephesians 6:10-13 NKJV, Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.
Do Not Worry
Lastly, Scripture 6: Matt 6:31-34 NKJV “Therefore do not worry, saying, what shall we eat? or what shall we drink? Or what shall we wear? For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
So for those 2025/2026 In’s and Out’s, “Out” with Anxiety and “In” with Faith. I certainly hope this note of love, will help my family, friends and all who we hold near and dear to our hearts! Be encouraged!!
